The Rector Participated in the 14th Anniversary Celebration of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo
On Monday, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Mentor Alishani, the Rector of Prizren University “Ukshin Hoti,” participated in the 14th-anniversary celebration of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo. The event was attended by the heads of public institutions, political parties, ambassadors, and representatives of international delegations from around the world.
Rector Alishani was accompanied by the academic staff of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Halim Bajraktari, vice-dean, and PhD. C. Milot Krasniqi, the head of teaching.
On this occasion, Ms. Gresa Caka Nimani, chairwoman of the Constitutional Court, talked about the hard work done during this period. She also mentioned all the criticisms and verbal assaults she has received over the years.
She highlighted that this court, as a symbol of an independent constitutional order, has been encountered with interpreting and defending the constitution. Fourteen years ago, the first generation took on the responsibility of interpreting the constitution of a newly established state. “The interaction between governments creates tension, which is a reflection of how democracy functions in the Republic of Kosovo. The presence of tension indicates the existence of the correct constitutional balance, even though this tension has often manifested as attacks on the court. The constitution represents a collective commitment of all authorities to the rule of law. The court will remain faithful to these principles”, emphasized the chairwoman of the Constitutional Court.
Meanwhile, the head of state, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, addressed the attendees through a video.
The Republic of Kosovo is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and democracy. These principles are, and should remain, the primary objectives of every institution within our state. As the President, my work is guided by this constitution. Our courts play a crucial role, and they are expected to operate in line with the principles of justice and equality. I am pleased to announce that in the coming days, Kosovo will host discussions with the courts of other states. I am convinced that the exchange of experiences with other nations will provide valuable guidance for Kosovo in addressing numerous challenges,” emphasized President Osmani.
