Peace Corps Collaborates with University and Prizren Municipality to Train Second Group of English Language Teachers
The training began with welcoming remarks from the host, University Rector Prof. Assoc. Dr. Mentor Alishani, as well as Dr. Carolyne Siganda, the Mayor of the Municipality, Mr. Shaqir Totaj, and the Director of Education, Ms. Luljeta Gutaj-Veselaj. The training session was led by Edita Kiseri-Alo, the Program Manager at Peace Corps.
Rector Alishani expressed his appreciation for the opportunity provided by the Peace Corps and his belief in the positive impact of this training.
Ms. Siganda thanked the teachers for their participation in the training and expressed her confidence in its productivity, emphasizing that the Peace Corps’ mission is to promote peace through friendship.
In his speech, Mayor Totaj emphasized that learning a new language is also an opportunity to embrace the culture of its origin, and in that context English offers us to learn a lot more.
Director Gutaj-Veselaj emphasized that teachers are developing new knowledge through teaching strategies and expressed her appreciation to the Peace Corps for this opportunity.
The primary aim of this training is to support English language teachers in Kosovo in advancing their pedagogical skills and promoting competency-based teaching in their classrooms. The training focuses on explaining teaching and learning theories and providing methodologies, techniques, and activities that enhance competency-based learning, stimulate critical thinking, and encourage collaborative problem-solving.
