A roundtable was held within the project "Climate change mentoring"
On Tuesday, a roundtable, supported by the UNDP, was held at Prizren University “Ukshin Hoti” as part of the “Climate Change Mentoring” project, aimed at University students.
The first meeting was opened by the project manager, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Faruk Bojagji, who expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to this project and participated in this workshop. Meanwhile, the University Rector, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Mentor Alishani, gave a welcoming speech.
He emphasized that the project’s topic is an excellent combination of the academic level and the real-world issues we face every day, such as climate change, which are also discussed at a global level.
While presenting, Mr. Maliq Pireci discussed the general context of climate changes and their effects in Kosovo.
So far, within the scope of this project, eight study visits have been conducted across Kosovo, exploring locations related to nature protection, climate, water, and biodiversity. These visits included places such as a mining company, Blinaja, national parks, a Ferronickel factory, the Forestry Institute-Nursery in Istog, a garbage landfill, a sewage plant, and an insightful visit to the Karavastas Lagoon in Divjakë, Albania.
- Five online lectures were conducted by distinguished professors from Prishtina University.
- Four physical lectures were led by distinguished professors from “Ukshin Hoti” University.
- Two ten-minute TV stories were produced addressing issues related to environmental protection and climate change.
- A mural activity was organized with the “11 March” high school students at the FLES environment, a beautiful landscape that has offered a fresh perspective to the corridors of this Faculty.
- The process of purchasing several volumes of books for the FLES professors is nearly complete.
- The printing of 1,000 awareness brochures is also being completed and will be distributed to schools and facilities where they can have a positive awareness impact.
- We will continue to hold roundtable meetings, as well as meetings with institutions and various companies, to discuss issues related to environmental protection and the contributions we can all make in this regard.
In this project, there were 41 active participants: 36 Albanians, 4 from the Turkish community, and 1 from the RAE community. This diverse group made the project more attractive and inclusive.
Furthermore, all FLES professors, and others beyond this group, actively participated in the study visits to the previously listed locations.
The project’s end date is on November 30. Today, one of our primary discussion topics involves brainstorming ideas for potential applications, particularly for UNDP.
