Prime Minister Kurti participated in the inauguration of the National Research School in Information and Communication Technology in Kosovo
In his speech, Prime Minister Kurti said that digitization is undoubtedly shaping our present and future and that its role and potential cannot be disputed in 2023.
He expressed the Government’s commitment to using technology to increase transparency and accountability in governance, to improve services for our citizens and businesses, and to increase the productivity and competitiveness of our economy.
“Information and Communication Technology in our country has a great potential. This month we will achieve full coverage of residential areas with broadband internet infrastructure. With a vibrant industry and community, ICT is one of the few sectors where we have a positive trade balance. So, it is not a surprise that the ongoing evaluation process of the Smart Specialization Strategy has already identified ICT as one of the five priority sectors in our economy that have the highest potential for growth and innovation”, said the Prime Minister.
In cooperation with the German government, the Government of Kosovo, the Prime Minister emphasized, continues to invest in the Innovation and Training Park in Prizren – as one of the key platforms within our national innovation ecosystem. He also announced that the Digital Technology Park in Bërnica will soon be inaugurated, which definitely provides a platform that will provide the infrastructure for the development and growth of the ICT industry.
The National Research School, according to the Prime Minister, is an important building block of the progress we intend to create and that the program will help develop innovative ideas that have the potential to create new products, businesses and jobs and therefore will to lead this country towards transformative steps.
Speaking about the project, he emphasized an important aspect of it, which is the inclusion of our academic diaspora, which has many professionals, researchers, academics and entrepreneurs in its ranks. Therefore, we need to unlock the potential and cooperation by creating opportunities for our diaspora to bring their knowledge, expertise and experience in various fields to Kosovo, the Prime Minister added.
In the end, the Prime Minister congratulated the partner Universities for this excellent project and wished them success in its implementation.
The Rector Krrabaj also participated in the Ceremony with his colleagues and also gave a speech.
