University shows documentary "Trust Me", stimulating student discussions on disinformation and informational manipulation
In the framework of student discussions at Kosovo public universities regarding the documentary “Trust Me”, supported by the OSCE mission in Kosovo, the documentary was shown at Prizren University “Ukshin Hoti” on Monday. Discussions were held related to the topic, and part of this activity included Vice Rector Prof. Ass. Dr. Adelina Rakaj. She emphasized the importance of student awareness regarding disinformation and informational manipulation, which are an evident phenomena of the time we are living.
The purpose of the documentary and the ensuing discussions with the students is to promote critical thinking, encouraging them to understand how information, whether from traditional or online mass media, shapes our lives and perspectives.
“Trust Me” is a feature-length documentary directed by Oscar-nominated Roko Belic. The documentary talks about the themes of manipulation and misinformation, exploring human nature, information technology, and the need for news and media education to help people trust each other.
Students engaged in discussions about the roles and strategies of the media, stakeholders, and individuals in shaping social, cultural, and political processes.
Through a series of real-life situations represented in this documentary, students had the opportunity to see the influence of disinformation and informational manipulation. Thereafter, they engaged in discussions on strategies to avoid such situations, be mindful for informative manipulation, and be cautious on the sources when gathering information.
