Seminar on Artificial Intelligence Integration in Higher Education held at the University "Ukshin Hoti" Prizren
The University “Ukshin Hoti” Prizren hosted a seminar organized by HERE – Higher Education Reform Experts and the Erasmus+ Office in Prishtina, focusing on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education. The event was opened by Rector Prof. Mentor Alishani and the Erasmus+ Office Coordinator, Ms. Mimika Dobroshi, who emphasized the importance of strategic preparation as institutions enter a new era shaped by AI.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Sejdi Sejdiu, who presented a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the impact of AI on higher education. He addressed key issues such as academic integrity, digital and linguistic inequalities, the absence of unified standards, assessment challenges, and the need for staff capacity-building. Prof. Sejdiu stressed that Kosovo urgently needs a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for Higher Education, one that harmonizes institutional policies, ensures equitable access, and promotes ethical and responsible AI use across all institutions.
Following this, Prof. Dr. Ercan Canhasi delivered a clear and practical lecture distinguishing Artificial Intelligence from Large Language Models (LLMs). He emphasized that “not everything labeled as AI is truly artificial intelligence,” explaining that most tools used today are LLMs based on language processing. Prof. Canhasi demonstrated how LLMs can be integrated into teaching and learning, while also cautioning against risks that may arise when such tools are used without critical judgment. He further noted that despite rapid technological advancement, many manual and hands-on professions will remain less susceptible to being replaced by robots.
This seminar represents an important step toward building a coordinated and forward-looking approach to AI integration in Kosovo’s higher education sector. The discussions and recommendations presented offer a strong foundation for developing clear, harmonized, and sustainable policies for the future.
