The University “Ukshin Hoti” Prizren organized a Commemorative Meeting in honor of Prof. Dr. Zahadin Shemsedini, former Rector of the University, Full Professor of Physics, and one of the most representative figures of university education and Albanian science, who passed away on January 29, 2026.

The commemorative ceremony was attended by members of the Shemsedini family, institutional leaders, professors, colleagues, collaborators, students, and representatives of the academic and social community. The meeting was opened on behalf of the Organizing Council of the University “Ukshin Hoti” Prizren, followed by a minute of silence held in honor of his life and work.

During the commemorative speeches, it was emphasized that Prof. Dr. Zahadin Shemsedini was one of the most distinguished names in the field of physics in Kosovo, with an extraordinary contribution to university education, institutional development, and the education of younger generations. Born on August 5, 1948, in the village of Blaç in the municipality of Sharri, he built a long academic career, lecturing for more than four decades at the University of Prishtina and later at the Faculty of Education in Prishtina and Prizren.

Prof. Dr. Shemsedini attained all academic ranks up to Full Professor, served as Head of the Department of Physics, Vice Dean of the Faculty, and Acting Rector of the University “Ukshin Hoti”Prizren during the academic year 2013–2014. His scientific contribution includes dozens of scientific papers, international research projects, as well as over thirty textbooks and teaching materials for university and pre-university education.

A special dimension of his work was his social and national engagement during the years of Serbian occupation, when he held important positions in the education sector in Prizren and faced persecution and imprisonment due to his national activities.

As part of the commemorative meeting, speeches were delivered by the Rector of the University “Ukshin Hoti”Prizren, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani; Mr. Kadri Skeja on behalf of the family and society; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Xhafer Beqiraj on behalf of the academic community; and Prof. Dr. Meleq Bahtijari, who shared memories and reflections on the life, work, and human dimension of Prof. Dr. Zahadin Shemsedini.

As a sign of lasting respect and appreciation for his outstanding contribution, the University “Ukshin Hoti” Prizren awarded a Posthumous Certificate of Appreciation to the family of Prof. Dr. Zahadin Shemsedini, which was symbolically presented during the ceremony.

The commemorative meeting concluded by emphasizing that the life and work of Prof. Dr. Zahadin Shemsedini will remain an inseparable part of the history of higher education and academic culture in Kosovo.
