Discussion on Missing Persons and Collective Memory Held at the University of Prizren
The University “Ukshin Hoti” Prizren hosted an event dedicated to the issue of missing persons, where the screening of the documentary “The Plan to Erase the Traces” and a public discussion provided an opportunity to address the challenges of uncovering the fate of missing persons and the importance of preserving collective memory.
The event brought together students, academic staff, representatives of institutions, and civil society activists, who discussed one of the still-open wounds of Kosovar society. In this context, participants also reflected on the figure of Ukshin Hoti, the renowned intellectual and activist whose fate remains unknown since his disappearance in 1999.
The event was opened by Jeta Xharra, who emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of missing persons through both public and institutional engagement as part of broader efforts toward justice and historical remembrance. Participants were also welcomed by the Rector of the University, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Mentor Alishani, as well as representatives of the project.
Following the screening of the documentary, which explores the fate of missing persons from the Prizren region and tells the stories of families who have spent years waiting to learn the truth about their loved ones, a public discussion moderated by Jeta Xharra took place.
The panel featured Ilir Morina from the Special Prosecution Office, Kushtrim Gara from the Government Commission on Missing Persons, Ditor Haliti from the Institute of Forensic Medicine, activist Agron Limani from Krusha e Madhe, Aleksandar Rapajic from ACDC, and KALLXO.com journalist Kreshnik Gashi.
The discussion focused on the institutional and societal challenges involved in clarifying the fate of missing persons, the importance of documenting collective memory, and the need for continued institutional commitment in the pursuit of justice for families who are still waiting for answers.
