Ombdsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj talked about human rights with law students at the University of Prizren "Ukshin Hoti".
Mr. Qelaj held a lecture first presenting his mandate and competences, as well as the work and activities for the protection and promotion of human rights.
The Ombudsperson also spoke about the reports with recommendations, which he issues in relation to citizens’ complaints, and which are addressed to the responsible public authorities to undertake to improve the alleged violation of human rights.
Mr. Qelaj explained the way of receiving complaints and how they are handled by the Ombudsperson’s Institution, with seven other offices in the regions of the country.
The discussion continued with questions from students who were interested in the state of rights in the country, what are the citizens’ complaints and how are the recommendations from public institutions being implemented.
Students also heard about cases of discrimination, gender equality and children’s access to education.
The Ombudsperson also spoke about the handling of cases related to delays in court procedures, such as the most complaints received by the OI.
